Racing against time to save the environment and spread green cover to make up for the large-scale devastation of the forests and along with it, a variety of tree species, it was time to sow not just seeds but toss seed balls for a faster result in the city.
More than 500 seed balls were made by a big crowd of residents who participated in Greenathon campaign conducted on Saturday at Central Park by a group of nature lovers.
The event was organized by Shrunkhala, a nature lover group and non-profit organization free of cost .
“Seed balls are mud balls in the size of golf balls which are prepared with various ingredients, along with different kinds of seeds of native sturdy trees, like Karanj, red cotton, Palash, Neem and jamun. We will toss these seed balls in barren lands , hilly areas in and around the city during the onset of
monsoon,” shared Rosy George, a participant
The group members hope to reach out to maximum number of residents within three months from April to June by organizing more such programmes and make one lakh seed balls which will be tossed during monsoon.
The occasion is to celebrate ‘April Cool’ on April 1 by introducing seed ball making programme so that every family could contribute for the earth.
“One of the objectives of our green drive is to spread more awareness about seedballs by engaging in hands-on fun-filled activities for a greener planet and how we as individuals can initiate small action such as this for the betterment of our society,”said a volunteer.
